About us

Situated in the heart of the Anglia Ruskin University Campus (off East Road, Cambridge), the Mumford Theatre is a university theatre presenting a range of professional touring, local community and student theatre. It also presents music events including a series of free lunchtime recitals.

With an excellent tiered seating arrangement, the Mumford Theatre is able to boast an enviable reputation for offering a good view from all 264 of its seats.

The theatre opened in 1970 as the "College Auditorium" when the institution was known as Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology (CCAT). When the then Principal, Deryck Mumford, retired in 1977 the theatre was renamed in his honour at a gala performance of Menotti's opera The Consul.

The Mumford Theatre now forms part of the Department of Music and Performing Arts within the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences.
